Understanding Your Rights
Brocode Editorial•2026-02-17T21:00:00+00:00•8 min read

A clear, judgment-free guide to sexual and reproductive health rights for African men.
Sexual and reproductive health rights are not a favour granted to you — they are yours. Knowing them changes how you show up in a clinic, a relationship and a conversation with a partner.
The core rights
- Confidentiality. A health worker cannot share your status, results or visit with your family, partner or employer without your consent.
- Informed consent. No test, procedure or treatment should happen without it being explained to you first, in language you understand.
- Non-discrimination. Your age, marital status or income cannot legally be used to deny you care.
- Access to information. Accurate contraception, STI and fertility information is something you are entitled to ask for and receive.
If a right is denied
You can ask for a different provider, request a supervisor, or contact a partner organisation like PPAG. Brocode's Support page lists confidential channels that can help you escalate.
